Why We're Buying
Joseph Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of a dozen or so wines from the estate that retails well over $450. The highly sought-after pinot noir is a complex yet subtle harmony of cherry liqueur, fine leather, and spice. It also returned 41.1 from 2017 to 2021.

Vinous
The 2019 Griottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is the one cuvée that flirted with excessive ripeness on the nose, revealing figgy aromas filtering through the black fruit and just missing the delineation of the Fonteny. The palate is balanced, though, and velvety-smooth; here there is less sign of the overripeness. In fact, the finish shows impressive clarity and refinement. Hopefully time in bottle will address the sur-maturité, so cellar this for several years. 92-94
