Why We're Buying

M. Chapoutier Hermitage Le Meal Rouge is an otherworldly cuvée from the Rhône Valley. The syrah is stacked with velvety tannins, an omnipresent palate, and a touch of sweetness. The red wine has earned two 100-point ratings from wine critic Robert Parker and one from Jeb Dunnuck, who called the 2015 vintage "a perfect wine."

Still youthful, with a layer of toast holding sway over the core of crushed plum, blackberry and mulled spice notes, which is weighty for the vintage. Shows good drive through the loam- and mineral-tinged finish, with slightly firm grip. Best from 2011 through 2017. 30 cases imported.
