Why We're Buying

Bruno Giacosa got his start with Barbaresco. The red wine was the estate's first cru bottling and set the standard for great things to come. In 1996, Bruno Giacosa began sourcing his grapes exclusively from his Asili and Rabajá vineyards.

There’s impeccable transparency and freshness to this Barbaresco on the nose, which introduces bright rose petals, lifted orange peel, crushed stones and sour cherries. The stoney tannins trace intricate detail on the medium-to full-bodied palate, highlighting the racy acidity, brambly undertones and a beautiful array of wild berries. Yes, there’s power and depth of flavor, but this is all about grace and beauty. Drink from 2024.

Bruno Giacosa passed away in early 2018 but his style and standards are being maintained by his daughter Bruna. Asili is a vineyard renowned for its finesse, and that's certainly evident on the nose, which is very fragrant and ethereal, displaying raspberry and redcurrant aromas. The palate is still unyielding, very tight and tannic, though it gains in volume and solidity on the palate. At present it lacks a little generosity, but it should put on more weight when it reaches adolescence. The long, spicy finish is still a touch dry.
