Why We're Buying

Podere Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore is made with 100 sangiovese and hails from one of the highest vineyards in Bolgheri. The altitude yields grapes with optimal sugar levels, a light complexion, and a crisp, acidic finish. Wine critic Monica Larner lauded the power and precision of the 2015 vintage, saying, "This vintage is a gem for your cellar, and the wine should award a long aging trajectory for those who have the patience to wait."

Complex cherry, currant, mineral, spice and tobacco aromas signal this serious version. Despite the ripe fruit flavors and sweet tones, this has grip and the potential for development. Hangs together nicely now, in a youthful phase. Shows terrific length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. Best from 2022 through 2038.

The 2015 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco is big, bold and absolutely stunning. This blend of 65 Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 Merlot and 15 Sangiovese is dark and luscious, with overlapping melodies of tobacco, spice, dark fruit and grilled herb. There is so much depth and power. This vintage is a gem for your cellar, and the wine should award a long aging trajectory for those who have the patience to wait.

What a lovely nose that marries fresh elements of graphite, lead pencil, crushed violets and stones and riper notes of blackberry pie and blueberry cake. Full body, very polished tannins, an unmistakable serving of acidity and a long, mineral finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and sangiovese. Made from organically grown grapes. ICEA certified. Drink in 2022.
