Why We're Buying

Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d'Ampuis is the estate's fourth wine, taking its name from the site Guigal purchased in 1995. The wine is 93 syrah and 7 viognier, with grapes sourced from six vineyards. Wine critic Robert Parker called the 2010 vintage "an off-the-hook effort than easily competes with the more expensive single-vineyard releases."

Wine Spectator

A very fine effort for the vintage, with slightly mature hints of coffee and sage mingling with a core of black cherry, incense and iron. The long, fine-grained finish still has good grip, but is also plenty supple, with a lingering hint of incense. Drink now through 2022. 2,500 cases made.

The first vintage to be bottled with the engraved bottle, the 2004 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis is a clean, classy, balanced and medium-bodied effort that gives up classic black fruits, pepper and smoke intermixed with notions of olive tapenade, underbrush and game. Beautifully complex, elegant and seamless, drink it over the coming 5 to 7 years.
