Roberto Voerzio Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate comes from the oldest vines in Voerzio's holding. He distills each vine into a single bottle, resulting in a dark wine with wild aromas. wine critic James Suckling called the 2000 vintage "powerful, yet in perfect proportions," while Antonio Galloni praised its "its muscular, enveloping finish." According to Wine-Searcher.com, this Barolo ranks as one of the most expensive and sought-after from the region.
Critics Scores
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2009 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate (tasted in magnum) shows deep espresso and coffee notes at the outset that transform to dark fruit and sweet dark fruit. This is a full and generous wine with enormous clarity and power. Starting with the 2010 vintage, it will be called “Barolo Riserva Capalot” and 2011 will be the last year of production. Drink: 2016-2035.
Vinous
The 2009 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate is one of the most vivid and thrilling wines I have tasted at Voerzio in over a decade of regular visits. Black cherries, flowers, spices, menthol and licorice all jump from the glass. Layered, delineated and striking in its beauty, the 2009 impresses for its pure sophistication and elegance. This is an unusually polished vintage for the Capalot, a wine that is often much more brooding. Readers who can latch onto a few of the magnums will not be disappointed.
