A dense and wonderfully layered Luce with a solid center palate and ever so polished tannins. So long and beautiful. Full body. Flavorful and impressive. One of the best I have tasted.

Vinous

The 2018 Luce della Vite is loaded with inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice and espresso. Rich and sumptuous in feel the 2018 is an extroverted wine to be sure, but it avoids the heavy, over-extracted style of the past. What comes through is the natural intensity, texture and radiance of Montalcino. This is very nicely done.

The 26th vintage of Luce saw a return to 'normal' conditions following the drought season that was 2017. 'We had a winter with snow, a spring with warmth and rain, we had a proper summer where we had the sun and also some rain, and a terrific fall where we were able to stretch our harvest,’ says Lamberto Frescobaldi. This blend of Sangiovese and Merlot has a rich nose full of plump, ripe dark fruits, subtle dark chocolate, violets, and a minty-fresh edge. It's silky-smooth and very ripe, yet the sweetness of dark berry fruits is countered by saline acidity which also hides the 15 alcohol well. Streaks of roast coffee beans, dark chocolate and charred oak wash through the palate, the tannins super-fine and well integrated. The finish is long, with touches of liquorice and black cherry. Very drinkable now, but worth keeping for another couple of years at least before opening.
