Why We're Buying

Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato was the first single-vineyard Barolo from the Pio family. The winemaking legends released the first vintage in 1985 to international acclaim. Concentrated, powerful, and well-structured, this 100 nebbiolo can age for more than two decades. As Jeb Dunnuck described the 2015 vintage, “it’s beautifully done and well worth seeking out.”

Loads of crushed flowers and berries, with hints of licorice. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long finish. A decadent and wild wine with loads of character. This needs time in the bottle. Single-vineyard Barolo from one of Piedmont's most established vintners. Best after 2009.
