Why We're Buying
Albert Bichot Domaine du Clos Frantin Échézeaux Grand Cru stands out as one of the finest offerings from the estate. It's a single vineyard wine that communicates its sandy, gravel, and saline terroir with elegance and sophistication. The resulting pinot noir has a harmonious body laden with fruity aromas and a lengthy finish.

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Echézeaux Grand Cru from Domaine du Clos Frantin has a very endearing, understated but deceptively complex bouquet with pure red berry fruit mingling with minerals, wonderful transparency and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, impressive balance, a little oaky towards the finish but there is sufficient fruit to support that. I like the edginess here and energy, the focus better than many of its peers. This is a well-crafted Echézeaux from the Bichot team, albeit not as long-term as some of its peers.
