The Rich History Of Domaine Arnaud Ente

arnaud-ente-2.jpg

Originally from northern France, Arnaud Ente’s family moved to Bourgogne when his father married from Puligny-Montrachet.

Arnaud, born in 1966, worked for the legendary Domaine Coche Dury till he married Marie Odile Thévenot — the daughter of a winemaker — in 1992. In the same year, he quit his job and decided to produce his own wine, founding the magnificent Domaine Arnaud Ente with his wife.

Over the years, thanks to Arnaud’s tireless dedication, Domaine Arnaud Ente has gained immense popularity.

Today, the winery produces an exquisite range of white Burgundies reflecting the novel and elegant Ente style.

We’ll now look at the vineyards and vinification process at Domaine Arnaud Ente.

Domaine Arnaud Ente: Vineyards And Vinification

arnaud-ente-3.jpg

Arnaud Ente owns 4 hectares of vineyards, divided across 10 parcels in Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.

From his biggest holding, the En l’Ormeau vineyard in Meursault, Arnaud produces three wines — Meursault AOC, Clos des Ambres, and La Sève du Clos. Although all three white wines are produced from the Chardonnay grapes, their flavors vary based on the age of the vines.

The winery’s red wines come from varietal Gamay vines grown in Volnay Premier Cru Les Santenots and Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire.

In the 1990s, Arnaud Ente plucked only vines producing Chardonnay with maximum ripeness, making his wines opulent. But towards the decade’s end, he plucked his grapes earlier, and the wines showed enhanced minerality and acidity.

The grapes are crushed before getting pressed into juice using a hydraulic press. Once the must has settled, the juice undergoes fermentation in old oak barrels. Later, the wine is moved to tanks for maturation.

The Arnaud Ente wines are finally bottled without fining or filtration.
