LOS ANGELES, CA — September 12, 2022 — Vinovest, a digital platform democratizing access to fine wine investing, today announces the addition of New Orleans Pelicans' guard and winery owner CJ McCollum as an advisor. McCollum brings nearly a decade of wine and business experience to Vinovest and will lead programs to make wine investing more inclusive and equitable.
A two-time All-American at Lehigh University, McCollum was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2013. Portland proved a fertile ground for McCollum’s basketball career, where he earned the NBA Most Improved Player in 2016, and discovered his love of wine. In 2020, he opened the winery Heritage 91, making him the only active NBA player to own and operate a winery.
McCollum’s success is remarkable for several reasons, including that fewer than 1% of the 11,000 wineries in the United States are Black-owned. As a Black man, McCollum is a pioneer in bringing fine wine to individuals and communities who have long been excluded from the conservation.
