Why We're Buying
Domaine Henri Boillot Les Frémiets offers an exemplary version of Volnay. The full-bodied pinot noir has a generous mouthfeel with black cherries, plums, and raspberries embedded in subtly spicy and saline notes. Best of all, it has a lingering finish that endures for more than 30 seconds.
Critics Scores
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets displays appealing aromas of smoked meats, plums, wild berries, dark chocolate and rich soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and velvety, with fine-boned structuring tannins cloaked in sapid and succulent fruit.
Burghound.com
A more deeply pitched nose reveals notes of dark cherry, plum and raspberry along with pretty spice and violet wisps. The supple and quite round medium-bodied flavors possess a bit more volume if less finesse on the impressively persistent and slightly firmer finish where a trace of wood appears.
Vinous
The 2017 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru has a generous, slightly gamey bouquet that unfolds in the glass. The palate is well balanced with sappy red and black fruit infused with liquorish and light tobacco notes forward the structured finish. A spicy residue on the aftertaste lingers for 30 seconds. Give this a couple of years in bottle.
