The NV Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition is built around the 2006 vintage, and this bottle was tasted alongside Krug's 2006 Brut, making for a fascinating contrast. Revealing a lovely bouquet of smoky yellow apples, toasted bread, pear, mandarin, beeswax and dried flowers, the wine is drinking brilliantly, with its charming and enveloping profile reflecting the vintage, but also displaying a more controlled, classical balance than the creamier, richer and more gourmand 2006 Brut. Its lively acids, chalky structure and complex finish mark it out as a very fine rendition of Grand Cuvée.
