2017 domaine rostaing, cote rotie
Why We're Buying
Domaine Rostaing, also known as René Rostaing, has mastered the art of the Côte Rôtie cuvée. The vibrant and richly textured syrah has reached the greater wine world's consciousness after blossoming out of humble beginnings. Investors can find a bottle with the name "Ampodium," a portmanteau meant to evoke grace and stature.
Deep, brilliant violet. A mineral-tinged bouquet evokes ripe black and blue fruits, peony and licorice, and a peppery flourish builds as the wine opens up. Shows impressive energy on the palate, offering juicy boysenberry and cherry compote flavors complemented by suggestions of spicecake and candied licorice. Sweet and seamless in texture, finishing on a lingering floral note, with impressive energy and smooth, harmonious tannins
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Hints of peppery spice and licorice add complexity to the blueberry and cassis-scented nose of the 2017 Côte Rôtie Ampodium. It's medium to full-bodied, with silky but firm tannins and a long, dusty finish. It should be approachable in a couple of years but drink gracefully for a decade and a half. (JC)
