The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon harvest gave us a batch of exquisite Beringer red wines, each carrying the trademark qualities of their respective vineyards.

Let’s take a look at all of them:

1. 2016 8th Maker Cabernet Sauvignon ($390)

The name of this series takes inspiration from Mark Beringer, who is the eighth Beringer in the long line of winemakers. 2016 is the first batch of wine in this series.

The 8th maker Cab Sauv was made with grapes from Beringer’s first and also the most prestigious vineyards - Home Ranch. This full-bodied and balanced wine contains fine tannins, the result of a unique terroir. Find the juicy flavors of dark fruit: black cherry, blueberries, and blackberry preserves wrapped in well-balanced acidity.

2. 2016 Distinction Series Cabernet Sauvignon ($42)

In the tradition of Beringer’s single-vineyard wines, this Distinction Series wine was also fermented and aged separately along with other grapes from the Ava vineyard.

While Cab Sauvignon forms its base, you’ll find a fine imprint of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Sirah, too - all aged in French oak for 20 months. This gives rise to a melange of flavors and aromas, bursting with pomegranate, blueberry pie, creme de cassis, walnuts, and hazelnuts

You may pop the bottle immediately or wait for its robust tannins to take effect and deepen the red wine’s complexity over the next decade.
