Casanova Di Neri Vineyards

The Casanova Di Neri estate is 500 hectares large, and it consists of:

• 63 hectares of vineyard lands located near Castelnuovo dell'Abate and Cerretalto
• 20 hectares of olive groves
• 417 hectares of cultivable land and forest

The large estate includes seven vast vineyards which have ideal terroir for growing exceptional grapes. Casanova Di Neri also plants it’s own Sangiovese Grosso clones.

All the estate’s vineyards are tended to with great care and passion, considering their unique terroir (including the microclimate, vineyard position, and soil composition.)

• Cerretalto Vineyard: This vineyard is situated east of Montalcino in a natural amphitheater, near the Asso river.

Winemaking At Casanova Di Neri

The Casanova Di Neri cellars are largely underground to make the most of the naturally cool temperatures. The winery has three floors, which allows the use of natural forces of gravity during vinification. 

Here’s a brief look at the winemaking process:

• Harvesting: The grapes are harvested and selected manually before being destemmed. After this, they go through an optical sorting process for a more thorough grape selection.
• Fermentation: Then, they’re moved to the fermentation tanks through gravity-driven funnels. Fermentation takes place in open-topped conical vats made of steel and wood. Tannins get carefully extracted to ensure they retain all their aromas and hues. 
• Aging: The wine is aged for about 30-42 months in oak barrels in large, airy rooms.
• Bottling: Once the aging process is complete, the wine is bottled, labeled, and dispatched.

A Brief History of Casanova Di Neri

Founder, Giovanni Neri, bought the Cerretalto vineyard in 1971. 

He produced his first Brunello wine in 1978. Meanwhile, he kept expanding his vineyard portfolio with vine parcels in other Montalcino lands with fantastic terroir.

Giovanni died in 1991, and his son Giacomo Neri now runs the winery along with consultant Carlo Ferrini.
