The Extraordinary Dom Perignon 1975 Champagne

by Anthony Zhang

The prestigious Dom Perignon Champagne releases only exceptional vintage wines, and the 1975 vintage is no different.

The Champagne brand is owned by the Moet and Chandon wine company in France. This luxurious Champagne is named after Dom Pierre Perignon, a 17th-century Benedictine monk and cellar master at Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers.  This article will explore what makes the Dom Perignon 1975 vintage remarkable, how much it’s worth, its shelf life, and its flavor profile.

Here are a few factors that made the 1975 vintage unique:

  • Weather: The grape budding started very late in the vineyard. However, the flowers bloomed under fine weather conditions. The month leading up to harvesting was sunny and hot with a few storms.
  • Winemaking: In 1975, the cellar master fermented the must in steel tanks for the first time (before that it was always in wood.)
  • Aging: The Dom Perignon Oenotheque edition spent a longer time aging on its lees and was disgorged in 2007.
  • Bottle: The bottle for this Dom Perignon vintage was based on a unique 1735 bottle design.
