Dom Perignon Oenotheque: How It’s Made, Taste, 8 Delicious Bottles (2024)

by Hunter Robillard

Dom Perignon Oenotheque is a special Cuvee of Dom Perigon that is disgorged after being aged on lees for years and released only when the “Chef de Cave” (cellar master) deems it perfect for release.

Oenotheque wines are marked by complex aging notes, fine elegance, and aromatic intensity.

However, the Moet & Chandon Champagne house doesn’t produce the Oenotheque bottle anymore. It has rebranded the Oenotheque wine as “Plenitude”.

Let’s find out all about Dom Perignon Oenotheque Champagne and its exotic styles, and 8 fine Dom Perignon Oenotheque bottles.

Dom Perignon Oenotheque Champagne Styles

Dom Perignon Oenotheque was produced in two main styles:

  • Dom Perignon Brut Millesime: It is a dry white wine made from the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varieties.
  • Dom Perignon Oenotheque Rose: Dom Perignon Rose wine is a pink Champagne that gets its color from the red wine added before the secondary fermentation.

Fun fact: Even though Dom Perignon Champagne comprises the fruit of seven Grand Cru vineyard plots, this prestige Cuvee still doesn’t classify as a Grand Cru because of the presence of Premier Cru fruit.

Re-Branding Of Dom Perignon Oenotheque

Moet & Chandon rebranded its Oenotheque wine as Plenitude. Like the Oenotheque wine, Plenitudes are released after extended aging on lees.

However, unlike Oenotheque, Plenitude wine is released in three stages: P1, P2, and P3.

What are Dom Perignon P1, P2, and P3 wines?

  • Dom Perignon P1 is released after nine years of aging.
  • Dom Perignon P2 is released after 12-15 years of aging.
  • Dom Perignon P3 is released after about 20 years of aging.

The Moet & Chandon now uses the term “Oenotheque” to refer to their exotic wine library.
