Henri Boillot Vineyards and Terroir

Henri Boillot Vineyard

Domaine Henri Boillot is strategically placed in one of the finest terroirs between Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay.

Puligny-Montrachet’s soil comprises limestone mixed with clay. Vineyards such as Le Montrachet and Puligny Les Perrières are perfect for the growing of Henri Boillot’s white wine grapes.

At Volnay, the soil comprises limestone and schist. Combined with the altitude of the vineyard, it provides the perfect conditions to grow high-quality Pinot Noir.

The grape vines are grown using the viticulture practice of ‘La Lutte Raisonnée’ (the reasoned struggle), where chemicals in the vineyard are used only when strictly necessary.

How is Henri Boillot Wine Made?

Henri Boillot

The grapes are harvested as late as possible in order to maximize their phenolic content.

The white wine sourced from Premier and Grand Crus in Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault is fermented in 350-liter barrels and bottled after barrel aging for 18 months in the estate's cellar.

The domaine’s red wines are made from Premier and Grand Crus in Côte de Beaune, Volnay, and Savigny. These are fermented in stainless steel tanks and barrel aged for 18 months.

History of Domaine Henri Boillot

Henri Boillot

Henri Boillot took over the winery’s management in 1975.

In 1996 Henri established his negociant business Maison Henri Boillot allowing him to source high-quality grapes from nearby vineyards such as Clos Vougeot.

By 2005 Henri had purchased the Domaine from his father and renamed it Domaine Henri Boillot. His son Guillaume Boillot joined him in 2006 and took over the red wine production while Henri focused on the whites.

The Domaine’s wines have featured in publications by Wine Advocate and have garnered the attention of legendary wine critics like Robert Parker and Allen Meadows.
