A Quick Intro To Domaine Roulot

The renowned Roulot winery mainly produces Chardonnay wines using fruit from village-level and Premier Cru vineyard sites. It was founded by Guillaume Roulot in the early 1800s and was later managed by Guy Roulot in the late 1920s.

Guy Roulot, a legendary producer of fine Meursault wines, took the familys small production Domaine to greater heights. He was one of the first Meursault winemakers to produce extraordinary single vineyard bottlings.

Guy Roulot got access to prime vineyards when he married Geneviève Coche - a lady from Meursault’s celebrated Coche family. Guy Roulot passed away in 1982, and his son, Jean-Marc Roulot, took over the winery in 1989.

Today, Domaine Roulot makes the most delicate Meursault wines using the fruit from its 10 hectares of organically farmed vineyards.

How Are Roulot Wines Made?

roulot-4.jpg

To produce Roulot wines, the grapes are hand-harvested and vinified by Jean-Marc in the Roulot cellars.

Here’s how the white wines are produced:

  • The Chardonnay wines are fermented in oak barrels, while Aligote wines undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
  • The winemaker might also apply the malolactic fermentation technique to give the wines a creamy texture.
  • Aligoté wines are aged in stainless steel tanks for about a year. Meanwhile, Chardonnay wines are aged in an oak barrel for a year, and in a stainless steel tank for about 6 months.

Now, let’s check out how the red wines are made:

  • The grapes are de-stemmed and the fruit is crushed. From there, the grape juice is kept at a low temperature for 3-4 days.
  • Fermentation takes place inside oak barrels and lasts for about 12 days.
  • These wines are aged for 12-15 months in an oak barrel before bottling.
