About This Wine
When people think of Taittinger, they think of Comtes de Champagne. This flagship cuvée captures the best qualities of the house and distills them into a single bottle. For the 2006 vintage, chef de cave Loïc Dupont marries freshness with ripeness and elegance, yielding a truly magical blanc de blancs. The 2006 Comtes de Champagne has evoked comparisons to the 2002 and 2004 vintages. Each is smooth, rich, and creamy, though the 2006 showcases more textural complexity and weight. Lively notes of orchard fruit, freshly baked brioche, orange zest, walnuts, and wildflowers enhance a medium to full body rife with chalk from some of the finest terroir in Côte des Blancs. In the words of wine critic Antonio Galloni, "Comtes de Champagne remains the single best value (in relative terms) in tête de cuvée Champagne. I suggest buying a case and following it over the next 20-30 years." The Final Sip: Everything comes together to make 2006 Comtes de Champagne a modern classic rendition of this iconic cuvée.
