2014 penfolds, bin 798 rwt shiraz, barossa valley

Why We're Buying

Penfolds RWT Bin 798 Shiraz is a powerful, rich, and intense wine that takes after Penfolds Grange. It elaborates on the hallmark characteristics, carving its own muscular and assertive image in the process. In 2018, Dan Murphy's Wine Panel wrote, "Our wine panel, in unison, exclaimed, "Wow!" on nosing this wine. We were instantly captivated by its brooding darkness...Silky smooth and without a hair out of place, this is the premier wine of the 2020 Penfolds release."

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 RWT Shiraz from the Barossa Valley offers cedar and cassis notes over a core of blackberry preserves, mocha and spice cake. Big, full, opulent and with notable notes of toasty oak, it has a solid structure and very long finish. Matured for 17 months in French hogsheads, 70% new, this baby needs a lot of time to integrate and shed some of its puppy fat.

Here the purity of Barossa Shiraz is complemented by a creamy, rich texture, Named ""Red Winemaking Trial"" during its development in the mid-1990s...the name stuck and RWT has become a classic in its own right.
