The citrus-colored 2014 Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese # 1 (Auction) was auctioned in Trier 2015 and fetched 83 Euros plus taxes. The wine opens with a beautifully clear and elegant slate aroma and very fine fruit aromas. This is a very delicate but complex Auslese of great purity, finesse and elegance whose residual sugar of 98 grams per liter is perfectly absorbed by the salty minerality of this excellent Auslese. A more typical Zilliken Auslese in terms of sweetness and opulence than its AP # 2 counterpart, this auction bottling, representing a single thousand-liter fuder, is almost severely concentrated, featuring zesty, sizzling candied lime peel and ginger along with pit- inflected white peach preserves. The botrytis has done its noble work here without leaving behind any obvious fingerprints, and the clarity, animation and juiciness of the long finish, delightfully leavening the wine's richness.
