chiara boschis (azienda agricola e. pira e figli), barolo, cannubi 2001
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2001 Barolo Cannubi is a pretty wine, but despite its considerable charms, it remains heavily marked by French oak, which was 100% new in this vintage. There is plenty of intensity in the dark fruit, along with pretty suggestions of flowers, spices and mint that add complexity. Still, I can’t help wondering what the 2001 might have been like with a less overt use of French oak. A recent magnum was naturally fresher than the normal bottle. I would prefer to drink the 2001 sooner rather than later.
Wild and funky with an exotic undertone. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long finish. Gorgeous and seductive.
