Why We're Buying
Pian dell'Orino Vigneti del Versante reinforces why the estate is one of the biggest names in Tuscany. The Brunello features ripe cherry and plum with splashes of vanilla. While it is a big wine, it is not heavy. The softness of its tannins and the elegance of its structure make it approachable. Pian dell'Orino Vigneti del Versante also returned 39 from 2017 to 2021.
Critics Scores
Vinous
Luminous red. Very deep, complex, expressive aromas of red cherry, raspberry, balsamic oils, violet, and sweet spices on the highly perfumed nose; you can definitely recognize the terroir of Sesta here. Clean, juicy and suave, with multilayered, rich flavors similar to the aromas and an almost smoky nuance. Finishes very long with rising, noble tannins and a saline note. This is an absolutely knockout Brunello that is drinking already very well but will have no difficulty lasting another 12-15 years. Made with grapes from the Scopeta, Cancello Rosso and Bassolino di Sopra vineyards. (ID)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This wine will be released in the Spring of this year. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante exhibits an immediate sense of depth and complexity. Winemaking saw minimal movement or pump-overs because Jan Hendrik Erbach tends to keep his wines in reduction for a long as possible in order to slow down their evolution. This is especially important in an immediate and accessible vintage like 2013. This expression is profound and precise with sharply etched aromas of wild berry, licorice, lavender and lightly roasted almond. Violets flood over the palate, backed by silky fine texture. (ML)
