Blanton's Price in 2026: What Each Bottle Costs at Retail and Resale

Blanton's price at state-run liquor stores in November 2026 is about $83 for a 750ml bottle of the Original Single Barrel, $150 for Gold Edition and $180 for Straight From The Barrel. Paying much more usually means a private store's markup or the secondary market, where the Original now trades only a little above retail.

Below are dated prices from official price lists in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, a private retailer for comparison, Takara Shuzo's prices for the Japan-market bottles, what secondary-market trackers report, and our honest view on whether Blanton's belongs in an investment portfolio.

Blanton's price: key takeaways

  • Original Single Barrel (93 proof): $82.95 on North Carolina's November 2026 ABC price list and $82.99 at Virginia ABC, checked November 4, 2026.
  • Gold Edition (103 proof): $149.95 in North Carolina and $149.99 in Virginia. Montgomery County, Maryland sold it for $124.99 in its April 2026 lottery.
  • Straight From The Barrel (barrel strength): $179.95 in North Carolina and $179.99 in Virginia.
  • Resale is close to retail for the Original: The Collective put its value at $95 (90-day average, August 2026), about 15% over North Carolina's shelf price before tax and selling costs.
  • Our view: Blanton's is a great bottle to drink and a fun one to collect, but the Original is not an investment. Gold and Straight From The Barrel keep bigger premiums, and even those are flat to falling.

How much is a bottle of Blanton's?

The cleanest public benchmark is a state-run liquor system. These agencies publish one fixed price for every store they run, with a date on the list. Private stores set their own prices, and for allocated bottles many price off what the bottle resells for. Buffalo Trace's Blanton's product pages give proof, mash bill and tasting notes but no suggested retail price. (Source: Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s Original Single Barrel)

Blanton's Original Single Barrel price

When people say "Blanton's," they usually mean the Original: 93 proof (46.5% ABV), dumped and bottled one barrel at a time, and the most widely sold bottle in the range. (Source: Buffalo Trace) Every Blanton's is a single barrel bourbon, so a search for the "Blanton's single barrel price" lands on the same bottle, about $83 at state stores.

That price has crept up through 2026. North Carolina listed the Original at $79.95 in February, $81.95 in May and $82.95 from August, unchanged on the November list. That is a $3 rise, or 3.8%, in nine months. (Source: NC ABC, February 2026 price list) (Source: NC ABC, November 2026 price list) Store picks cost a little more: North Carolina sells the Single Barrel Select for $87.95.

Blanton's Gold price

Gold Edition is bottled at 103 proof (51.5% ABV). Buffalo Trace says it was originally created for international markets. (Source: Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s Gold Edition) US state prices cluster around $150, but the spread between government sellers is wider than you might expect: Montgomery County, Maryland charged lottery winners $124.99 in April 2026, $25 less than North Carolina. (Source: Montgomery County ABS) The private store in our table asked $179.99, 20% more than North Carolina.

Blanton's Straight From The Barrel price

Straight From The Barrel is uncut and unfiltered, so its proof changes from barrel to barrel. Buffalo Trace's product page shows 133.7 proof, while North Carolina's price list records it at 130. (Source: Buffalo Trace, Straight From The Barrel) It is the most expensive standard Blanton's at about $180 in state stores. Pennsylvania offered 213 bottles to consumers at $157.99 in an August 2025 lottery, alongside 423 bottles of Gold at $144.99. (Source: PLCB)

What do Blanton's Takara Red and Black cost in Japan?

Takara Shuzo imports and sells Blanton's in Japan. Its current lineup lists four 750ml bottles: the standard Blanton's at 46.5%, Black at 40%, Gold at 51.5% and Straight From The Barrel. (Source: Takara Shuzo, Blanton’s lineup) Collectors call the Japan-market single barrel "Red Takara" and the Japan-only 80-proof bottle "Black Takara." (Source: Whisky Auctioneer, Blanton’s)

Takara raised reference retail prices on all Blanton's products by 20% to 23% from November 2023 shipments, citing rising import costs driven by higher production costs in the US. Why is Blanton's so hard to find?

Blanton's own answer is simple: demand is outpacing supply, even after the distillery increased production, and aged bourbon takes years to catch up. The brand also notes it cannot legally sell bottles to consumers directly. (Source: Blanton’s FAQ)

It is rationed by stores and states

North Carolina's list of allocated and limited items, updated September 1, 2026, puts the Original and Gold under "allocated items" and Straight From The Barrel under "limited distribution." (Source: NC ABC Commission allocated list) Virginia ABC lists the 750ml Original as an in-store-only item that cannot be ordered online. Some states sell the scarcest bottles only by lottery, as Pennsylvania and Montgomery County, Maryland do.

The production is slow by design

Each bottle is hand-dumped from a single barrel, then bottled, labeled and sealed individually. The whiskey ages in Warehouse H, the only metal-clad warehouse at Buffalo Trace, where temperature swings speed up maturation. (Source: Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s Single Barrel) Colonel Albert B. Blanton ordered that warehouse built after Prohibition, and Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee launched Blanton's in 1984 as the first single barrel bourbon, named for the Colonel. (Source: Blanton’s, Our Story)

More whiskey is coming, but slowly

Buffalo Trace finished a $1.2 billion expansion in January 2025 that raised its production capacity by 150%. (Source: Buffalo Trace, nine millionth barrel release) New spirit still needs years in oak, and Whisky Auctioneer notes Blanton's is normally 6 to 8 years old. (Source: Whisky Auctioneer) The 50ml miniatures are even scarcer: Blanton's says they go in limited quantities to Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Texas only. (Source: Blanton’s FAQ)

Blanton's retail vs. secondary price

The secondary market is private resale, mostly between collectors. It is not a regulated exchange, and in many places selling alcohol without a license is illegal. Pennsylvania's liquor board, for example, reminds lottery winners that unlicensed sales are prohibited under state law. (Source: PLCB) The figures below come from collector price trackers, not audited sales, so treat them as estimates.

Blanton's secondary-market estimates vs. state retail (estimates; dates differ)
Bottle State-store price (NC, Nov 2026) Secondary estimate Source and date Rough premium over NC retail
Original Single Barrel $82.95 $95 The Collective, 90-day average of recorded trades, Aug 2026 +15%

Sources: The Collective, Blanton’s Single Barrel value; Bourbon Culture, 2026 Bourbon Brown Book. Premiums are our calculations and ignore sales tax, shipping and fees, which can wipe out most of the Original's gap.

The direction matters as much as the level. Bourbon Culture rated the Original "slightly down," Gold "no movement" and Straight From The Barrel "slightly down," and said it had seen regular Blanton's offered in Kentucky at $99.99 with nobody buying. (Source: Bourbon Culture) Our bourbon investment guide reached the same conclusion: wider distribution has eroded Blanton's premiums.

What about old bottles and the stoppers?

Blanton's says an old bottle may be worth more than a new one but will not appraise it. (Source: Blanton’s FAQ) Since 1999 the horse-and-jockey stoppers have come in a set of eight, each marked with a letter, that spell B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S when complete. (Source: Blanton’s, Our Story) There are two different N's: the second is followed by a small colon. All letters are made in equal numbers, but because bottles are stoppered by hand at random, some feel rarer than they are. (Source: Blanton’s FAQ) To value an older bottle, see our guide to old whiskey bottle value.

Is Blanton's a good investment?

For the Original, no. For Gold and Straight From The Barrel, only marginally, and with real risk. Here is our reasoning.

  • The spread is thin. At about $95 on the secondary market against $83 at state stores, the Original leaves roughly $12 before tax, shipping and fees. If you paid a private store's price, you may already be at or above resale value.
  • Supply is rising. Buffalo Trace's capacity is up 150% since the expansion finished. (Source: Buffalo Trace) Across Kentucky, a record 17.1 million barrels of spirits are aging, up 11% from the year before, and 16.1 million of them are bourbon. (Source: Kentucky Distillers’ Association, 2026 economic impact summary)
  • Prices have been falling. Bourbon Culture says bourbon secondary prices fell sharply in 2024 and 2025 before stabilizing. (Source: Bourbon Culture) We cover the wider picture in 5 market trends shaping bourbon investments.
  • Selling is the hard part. Unlicensed resale is restricted or illegal in many states, so the realistic exits are licensed auctions or legal private sales. Our guide on how to sell a whiskey investment walks through both.

The upside, where it exists, sits in specific bottles: older bottlings, limited editions and high-proof Straight From The Barrel barrels. Even there, you are betting on collector taste, not on anything the whiskey does in the bottle.

The Vinovest view

We treat a bottle of Blanton's as something to enjoy, not a portfolio holding. If you want whiskey as an asset, the approach we use is cask ownership. On Vinovest, American whiskey starts at $1,750, and we source, authenticate, insure and store the casks, with a suggested hold of 4 to 8 years or more. (Source: Vinovest, Invest in Whiskey) Casks carry their own risks, from evaporation to resale demand, so read our guides to investing in whiskey casks and whiskey investment before committing money.

How to buy Blanton's at a fair price

  • Know the benchmark. About $83 for the Original, $150 for Gold and $180 for Straight From The Barrel is what state stores charge. Prices near $100 for the Original are already close to secondary territory.
  • Check your control state. Blanton's points buyers in 17 control states, including North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Utah, to their state liquor board. (Source: Blanton’s FAQ) Lotteries in Pennsylvania and Montgomery County, Maryland have sold Gold below $150.
  • Read the label. The dump date written on the label is the day the barrel was emptied, which can be a day or two before bottling. Blanton's cannot trace which stores received which dates. (Source: Blanton’s FAQ)
  • Buy what you will drink. If the price only makes sense as a resale bet, the numbers above suggest skipping it.

Bottom line on Blanton's price

Blanton's costs about $83 for the Original, $150 for Gold and $180 for Straight From The Barrel at state-run stores as of November 2026, and the gap to resale has narrowed. Buy it at a fair price because you like it. For whiskey as an investment, look at casks, not shelf bottles.
