Chateau La Gaffeliere (not to be confused with Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere) is located enroute to Libourne, to the west of Chateau Pavie, in the St Emilion commune of France

It is owned by Leo de Malet Roquefort of the Malet Roquefort family. 

This Bordeaux estate, founded on the site of a gaffeliere (leper colony), first began producing wine in the 17th century.

The Chateau produces two wines:

The terroir consists of clay-limestone, chalk, and sand soils.

The winery employs eco-friendly practices, including single and double guyot pruning, alternate disbudding, and adding shredded shoots for soil enrichment.

Winemaking at Chateau La Gaffeliere

The harvested grapes are kept in cold storage at the winery for a day before they’re sorted. 

Alcoholic fermentation occurs in conical, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, while malolactic fermentation is done in oak barrels.

The wines are aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months before bottling.

The estate produces 10,000 cases of its Saint Emilion Grand Cru wine annually.
