The 2014 Vintage Year Conditions: Terroir And Climate

Chateauneuf-Du-Pape-2014-1.jpg

The 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape vintage year started off great - the winter temperatures were perfect, the summer was warm and dry, and the vineyard sites received enough rainfall.

However, things changed in June - temperatures turned freezing, and excessive rainfall caused noble rot (botrytis) to develop on the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault grape varieties.

Fortunately, growers in areas with well-drained sandy soil were able to grow the best vine plantings.

The white grape varieties were harvested for about two weeks, starting in early September, and the red wine grape varieties were harvested from mid-September until early October.
