Soldera Wine in Vineyard

Gianfranco Soldera’s most prized wine was his Brunello di Montalcino DOCG which he renamed to “Toscana IGP Soldera 100% Sangiovese” after a messy split from Brunello Consorzio.

The winery also produced a few Brunello Riserva bottles in exceptional vintages.

In addition to these oak-aged fine Sangiovese, Soldera also produces two table wines: Pegasos (a wine aged in an early-maturing barrel)and Intistieti (a wine aged less than a year.)

Soldera also produces two Rosso di Montalcino wines: Rosso di Montalcino Soldera DOC and Rosso dai vigneti di Brunello Soldera (Vino da Tavola.)

All these 100% Sangiovese wines from the Brunello wine producer have great depth and complex earthy flavors balanced by red fruit nuances.

Investing In Soldera Wine

Soldera’s wines are highly regarded among serious wine collectors because of their potential to develop complexity with age. Soldera’s Brunello di Montalcino wines start to reach their maturity after at least a decade of aging.

Soldera’s wines are loved by wine critics as well, and often find a mention in top magazines like the Wine Advocate.

What sets Soldera apart from other Brunello producers is its limited production. Soldera focuses on small production quantities and it has garnered a devoted following of passionate collectors.

In 2020, a 12-bottle lot of the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Case Basse was auctioned for $15,535 at the “white gloves” auction of Joe Bastianich’s Del Posto cellar.

So, if you’re thinking about adding a fine Italian wine to your cellar, then Soldera is a great bottle to go for!

Let’s also look at how the wines are made.

Soldera Vineyards And Winemaking

Soldera Vineyard

Soldera’s Sangiovese vineyards are spread over 23 hectares in southern Montalcino. The Sangiovese grape vine plantings enjoy the brilliant terroir of hilly terrain, volcanic soils, excellent drainage, and distinct minerality.

The Case Basse estate vineyard sites are tended without the use of chemical pesticides. The 2-hectare botanical park houses hundreds of nests and beehives that help battle the vine parasites by sheltering other predator species.

The winemaker hand-prunes the Sangiovese vines in summer, so each grape reaches the perfect ripeness level.

Soldera performs natural fermentation (using natural yeasts) in large Slavonian oak casks for five years away from any temperature changes, which helps the wine manifold its aromatic complexity.

Intistieti and Pegasos spend a little less than a year in the Slavonian oak cask.
