2010 chateau rieussec premier cru classe, sauternes
Why We're Buying
Sweet white wine might not have the cachet of pinot noir or cabernet sauvignon, but investors are reconsidering when it comes to Château Rieussec. The premier cru classé wine prominently features Sémillon, with the estate producing only 6,000 cases per year. In 2004, Wine Spectator voted the 2001 vintage as the wine of the year.
The 2010 Rieussec is slightly more backwards on the nose. It is very focused with almond, saffron, orange pith and dried honey aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious entry. Impressive depth with lovely vanillary new oak, it is long and pure towards the finish. A Sauternes with pedigree. Superb. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. (NM)
