2018 francois mikulski, meursault premier cru, charmes
Why We're Buying
The world is a better place with Domaine François Mikulski Meursault Les Charmes in it. The chardonnay, which comes from 50+-year-old vines, offers a pure expression of the appellation. It unfurls notes of honey, violet, spice, and Turkish delight mixed with a sensual body. Domaine François Mikulski only releases 3,700 of this coveted white wine each year.

Here there is enough reduction to push what appears to be ripe fruit to the background though it doesn't seem as though it will persist. Otherwise the nicely vibrant and generously proportioned flavors possess a finer mouthfeel though noticeably less power on the clean, dry and youthfully austere finish that displays fine persistence. Lovely and this too is quite tightly wound.
Decanter
This is the younger (in terms of vine age) of François Mikulski's two bottlings of Charmes, sourced from two parcels within this large Premier Cru at the southern end of the village. Floral, yeasty and bready, with some nutmeg and vanilla spice, pithy acidity and focus and adroitly handled 25 new wood. Drinkable now but will age gracefully.
