Why We're Buying
Location, location, location. It's a truism in real estate as well as winemaking. Chartogne-Taillet has benefited from its location in Merfy, the home of the largest concentration of vines in Champagne. The extraordinary grape selection has allowed rising star Alexandre Chartogne-Taillet to produce exquisite and imaginative wines like Orizeaux Extra Brut.
Critics Scores
Vinous
The 2015 Extra Brut Les Orizeaux (Pinot Noir) is brighter and more intensely saline than the Couarres tasted alongside it. Pinot bristles with real tension and cut in the Orizeaux. Crushed rocks, slate, mint, sweet red cherry and tobacco abound, but it is the wine’s translucence and vibrancy that make it so beguiling. Alexandre Chartogne nailed the 2015. Don’t miss it. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2020.
