Why We're Buying
Domaine Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape Collection Charles Giraud marks the pinnacle of Rhône wine. It's a flawless combination of grenache, mourvèdre, and syrah that unfurls sweet tannins, lush energy, and tobacco notes on the palate. This Rhône red blend can age for at least two decades, with wine critic Jeb Dunnuck calling it "a perfect wine that's up with the top handful of wines in this incredible vintage."
Critics Scores
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
One of the wines of the vintage, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Collection Charles Giraud (a 60/40 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre) reveals a darker ruby color and beautiful notes of black raspberries, toasted spice, roasted meats and warm spice. Beautifully concentrated and medium to full-bodied with ripe tannic structure, give it two to three years in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2025.
Wine Spectator
Shows impressive depth and range for the vintage, with layer upon layer of steeped fig, crushed plum and warm raspberry preserve flavors forming the core, all backed by Turkish coffee, licorice root and roasted alder notes. The finish is long and authoritative, presenting a beguiling whiff of shiso leaf at the very end. A superb effort. Best from 2018 through 2030.
