Why We're Buying
Domaine Jasmin Côte-Rôtie Giroflarie hails from one of the oldest appellations in France. The sunbaked vineyards and diverse soils contribute to a multi-faceted red wine that adheres to owner Patrick Jasmin's traditional winemaking philosophy. While the syrah has wonderful balance in youth, it gains more complexity with age.
Critics Scores
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The traditional cuvée of Jasmin - the Côte Rotie la Giroflarie 2017 - is a blend of plots of the Côte Blonde and the Côte Brune, at 95 Syrah and 5 Viognier. Tasted on a vat before a light fining, violet, blackcurrant and walnut smoke appear on the nose of this medium-bodied wine. The tannins seem silky at first, but they firm up considerably on the finish, suggesting a cellaring potential of 10 years and more.
Vinous
Deep, glistening ruby. Assertively perfumed aromas of ripe red and blue fruits, exotic spices and candied violet pick up a smoky mineral quality with air. Spicy and sharply delineated on the palate, offering juicy cherry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors that show impressive energy and back-end lift. Finishes sappy, focused and very long, with fine-grained tannins adding shape and gentle grip.
