Why We're Buying
Promontory by Will Harlan is the latest blockbuster cabernet sauvignon from Napa Valley. It's a painstaking testament to one man's passion for creating the perfect wine. The Promontory team makes up to 70 passes through the vineyards to pick grapes, dividing the fruit into 30+ components. The result is a transcendent wine that approaches four digits in price.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2011 Promontory exhibits a dense purple color, more density and richness than I predicted from barrel, a big, sweet nose of licorice, scorched earth, espresso bean, camphor and sweet blackcurrants and blackberries. A Graves-like volcanic character is also present. Rich, full-bodied and in need of 3-4 years of cellaring (unusual for a 2011), it should drink well for two decades or more.
