Why We're Buying

Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon is a Bordeaux-style red blend that has defines the wine industry in California. The fruit is sourced from a vineyard on the southern-facing slopes of red volcanic soils in the Santa Cruz mountains from 60+ years old vines. The result is a wine that critic Wilfred Wong called "one of the greatest achievements in the history of wine." To date, Monte Bello has received seven 100-point ratings from critics.

A beautiful, fresh red with blackberry, blueberry and some chocolate. Pine, light toffee and coffee undertones. Dried herbs, too. Medium to full body with intensity and richness. Dusty tannins. Savory finish. Very drinkable now, but even better in 2023.

COMMENTARY: The 2018 Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is on point and well-structured. TASTING NOTES: This wine shows up with dried herbs, black fruit, and oak in its aroma and flavors. Pair it with a garlic and rosemary-laden, roast leg of lamb. (Tasted: April 16, 2021, San Francisco, CA)
