Why We're Buying
If you're looking for exceptional value, Château Batailley is the place to start. The grand vin has gained a reputation for sophistication and complexity in recent years but remains affordable for a fifth-growth Bordeaux wine estate.
Critics Scores
Vinous
This has a cohesive nose: blackberry, cedar, just a faint hint of thyme – good definition and focus although not quite the thrilling clarity of Pichon Baron. This is a very “correct” Lynch Bages that reminds more a little of Latour, very pure black fruit, cedar, a touch of briary, a slight tertiary notes towards the finish. Very well balanced and defined, good length, nice persistency. Excellent – unadulterated Cabernet that should drink well over two decades.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Wood spice, earth, black currant and sweet cherry characteristics are found in this elegant, medium to full-bodied, surprisingly rich, well-textured effort. From the bottle, it confirms the high quality I noted two years ago from barrel. More forward than usual for Batailley, it is a dark plum-hued wine that requires 2-4 years of bottle age, but should easily last 15+ years.
