Why We're Buying
Domaine de Montille Les Folatières is a masterclass on chardonnay. It’s well-balanced with a soft entrance that succumbs to citrus blossom, lemony fragrance, and delicate tannins. Most importantly, the chardonnay has a touch of acidity that holds everything together. From 2017 to 2021, this premier cru offering returned 36.2 on investment.
Critics Scores
Vinous
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru matures in just over 20 new oak, has an attractive bouquet, a little more complex than the Chalumaux with orange pith and Mirabelle aromas. The palate is well balanced with a slightly soft entry, but there is a fine line of acidity that tightens everything up, leading to a stony, malic finish that lingers in the mouth. Good potential here.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
An elegant, understated wine, the 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières offers up notes of ripe Meyer lemon, citrus blossom and almond paste that are delicately framed by new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, with a delicate, deceptively open-knit profile. I suspect it will tense up with a second winter on the lees.
