Why We're Buying
Rhône red blends don’t get better than this. Châteauneuf du Pape Colombis is a blend of grenache and mourvèdre that yields a heavenly array of textures, flavors, and aromas. The cuvée is an opulent display of concentrated fruits, smoke, licorice, and cocoa that cascades across the palate. Wine critic James Suckling gave the 2017 vintage a 100-point rating, saying, "Don’t miss it!”

One of my favorite wines in the world, the Châteauneuf du Pape Colombis is all old vine Grenache from the Colombis lieu-dit located on the western side of the appellation. The 2019 sports a healthy ruby/purple color as well as a classic Grenache bouquet of black raspberries, herbes de Provence, peppery spice, and flowery incense. Already complex, it’s full-bodied, has a wonderful sense of purity, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. This is power paired with elegance, and few wines do it so well. It’s going to drink beautifully for 15-20+ years. 96-99 points
