L'Arlot primarily produces fine Pinot Noir wines sourced from the estate’s Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards like Clos des Forêts and Clos de lArlot.

The Pinot Noirs are light-bodied and delicate with perfumy raspberry aromas and cherry flavors - thanks to the concentrated fruit of the estate’s old vines.

The reds pair extraordinarily well with a rack of lamb, roasted potatoes, yellow broccoli, and dark chocolate.

The estate also produces a small quantity of round and fresh Chardonnays that are loved for their exotic fruit aromas. Expect vanilla and honey on the palate with bright acidity.

These white wines pair with crab salads, peas, and seafood dishes.

Domaine de l’Arlot wines show incredible aging potential. Most bottles will last around 6 years, while some more exquisite vintages will cellar for over 15 years.

These wines often show commendable price appreciations. For example, the price of 2005 Domaine de l'Arlot Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru appreciated by 48% between 2020 and 2021, when it rose from $744 to $1,100.

You’ll also spot these wines performing well at auctions, like when a 12 bottle case of 2006 Domaine de l'Arlot wine from 3 different vineyards sold for $1,100 at the 2021 HDH Wine auction.

The Magnificent L'Arlot Terroir

arlot-3.jpg

Domaine de lArlot owns two monopole Premier Cru vineyards, Clos des Forêts and Clos de l'Arlot in Nuits St Georges - each having its distinct terroir.

Clos des Forêts is a 7.2-hectare vineyard planted mostly with Pinot Noir grapes and some Chardonnay. It sits on an incline and has white limestone at the top, pink limestone in the middle, and Ladoix limestone at the bottom.

Clos de l'Arlot, Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru has mostly marl and limestone soils and some of the Domaine’s oldest vines. Some are over 70 years old and are used to craft some delectable wines.

Domaine de l'Arlot’s head winemaker, Géraldine Godot, approaches each vineyard and vintage differently to express the best of Cote de Nuits’ terroir

How Is L'Arlot Wine Made?

arlot-4.jpg

To avoid over-extraction, the Chardonnay grapes are harvested from young vines and ferment at low temperatures.

The white wines age in around 20% new oak barrels for 1 year and then in stainless steel vats for 3 months before bottling.

The Pinot Noir vines are usually much older, and the grapes are harvested and punched down before fermenting in 45% new oak for 15 months and steel vats for another 3 months.

It’s also worth taking a peek at l'Arlot’s colorful history.

A Brief History Of L'Arlot

arlot-5.jpg

Jean Charles Vienot established the estate towards the end of the 18th century and passed it to his son Francois.

In 1891, Francois sold the estate to Jules Belin, who purchased the Clos des Forêts and Clos du Chapeau vineyards.

His heirs transferred the buildings and vines to AXA Millésimes almost a century later in 1987.

AXA Millésimes, alongside Jean Pierre de Smet and Jacques Sysses of Domaine Dujac, aquired Vosne Romanee Les Suchots and Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru - bringing in two iconic vineyards.

In 2007, Jean Pierre entrusted the domaine to Christian Seely, who handed over technical management firstly to Olivier Leriche, then to Jacques Devauges in 2011, and later to Géraldine Godot in 2014.

Today, l'Arlot consists of 14 hectares, and Géraldine Godot has free rein over the winemaking process. This has paid dividends as she is crafting some of the best wines the domaine has ever seen.
