Buffalo Trace Price in 2026: 750ml, 1L and 1.75L

The typical buffalo trace price at state stores in late 2026 is about $29 to $33 for a 750ml bottle, roughly $34 to $37 for a liter, and about $57 for 1.75L where that size is listed. Buffalo Trace Distillery does not publish an MSRP on its product page, so dated state ABC lists are the clearest public check.

This guide covers the core Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon sizes you can verify, how North Carolina and Virginia prices compare, and why this bottle is usually better drunk than flipped.

Buffalo Trace price: key takeaways

  • No published MSRP. The distillery's Buffalo Trace Bourbon page lists proof, mash bill and tasting notes, not a suggested retail price. (Source: Buffalo Trace Distillery, Buffalo Trace Bourbon)
  • North Carolina ABC shelf price (November 2026 list): $32.95 for 750ml and $33.95 for 1L Kentucky Straight Bourbon. (Source: NC ABC Commission, November 1, 2026 price list)
  • Virginia ABC shelf price (product page, checked November 6, 2026): $28.99 for 750ml, $36.99 for 1L and $56.99 for 1.75L. (Source: Virginia ABC, Buffalo Trace Bourbon)
  • Those NC prices match the May 2026 list for the same codes, so the state shelf price has been flat through the year for the core SKUs. (Source: NC ABC, May 2026 price list)
  • Our view: buy it to drink. Secondary markups and flipping risk are a poor trade for a widely distributed 90-proof bourbon.

How much is Buffalo Trace bourbon by bottle size?

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), made with Mash Bill #1, and aged in new charred oak barrels. The brand page notes vanilla, mint and molasses on the nose, with brown sugar, spice, oak, toffee, dark fruit and anise on the palate. (Source: Buffalo Trace Distillery)

Because the producer does not list MSRP, the table below uses retail prices from two control-state ABC systems. North Carolina's quarterly list is dated November 1, 2026. Virginia's product page prices were checked the same day this article was published.

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon shelf prices by size (control-state ABC)
Size North Carolina ABC retail (Nov 1, 2026) Virginia ABC retail (checked Nov 6, 2026) Notes
375ml $15.95 Not listed on VA product page NC code 18-338, 90 proof
750ml $32.95 $28.99 Core size; NC code 20-611
1 liter $33.95 $36.99 NC code 18-366; VA lists 1 L separately
1.75L Not on NC Nov 2026 list for this bourbon $56.99 Use VA when shopping this size

Sources for the table: NC ABC Commission, November 1, 2026 price list (RETAIL PRICE column for codes 18-338, 20-611 and 18-366); Virginia ABC, Buffalo Trace Bourbon (750 ml, 1 L and 1.75 L retail prices shown on the product page). Local taxes, mixed-bottle fees and store markups can change what you pay at checkout.

What does a Buffalo Trace 750ml cost?

On North Carolina's November 2026 list, Buffalo Trace KY Straight Bourbon 750ml (code 20-611) retails at $32.95. The same code was $32.95 on the May 1, 2026 list. (Source: NC ABC, November 2026) (Source: NC ABC, May 2026)

Virginia ABC lists the 750ml at $28.99 on its Buffalo Trace product page. (Source: Virginia ABC) That gap of about $4 between two control states is normal; open states and private retailers set their own prices.

What about Buffalo Trace 1 liter price?

On NC's November list, Buffalo Trace KY Straight Bourbon 1.00L (code 18-366) is $33.95 retail — only a dollar above the 750ml there. (Source: NC ABC)

The liter costs more in Virginia, at $36.99. (Source: Virginia ABC) If your store stocks both sizes, compare price per milliliter before you grab the bigger bottle.

What is the Buffalo Trace 1.75 price?

The NC November 2026 quarterly list has no 1.75L SKU for Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Virginia ABC does list it: $56.99 for 1.75L. (Source: Virginia ABC)

Treat any 1.75 quote outside a dated state list or a licensed retailer's shelf tag as unverified. We are not inventing a national MSRP for this size.

Half-bottles and store barrel picks

NC also lists a 375ml Buffalo Trace at $15.95 (code 18-338) and a Buffalo Trace Single Barrel Select (BTB) 750ml at $32.95 (code 19-320) — matching the standard 750ml shelf price there. (Source: NC ABC)

A barrel-select tag can mean a different warehouse profile, not a higher official price. Ask the store what "BTB" means for that bottle before you pay a premium.

Does Buffalo Trace Distillery publish an MSRP?

Not on the pages we checked. The flagship product page covers style, proof, mash bill, tasting notes and awards. It does not show a suggested retail price. (Source: Buffalo Trace Distillery, Buffalo Trace Bourbon)

The brand overview page likewise focuses on awards and heritage — the name comes from buffalo paths that ran through the Frankfort, Kentucky site — without a price. (Source: Buffalo Trace Distillery, Buffalo Trace brand)

When a producer skips MSRP, dated control-state lists are more useful than rumor. North Carolina publishes a full RETAIL PRICE column; Virginia posts live product prices online.

Why do Buffalo Trace whiskey prices vary by state?

Control states set uniform shelf prices for their ABC stores. Private retailers elsewhere can charge more or less, and allocated drops sometimes sell above those tags even when the bottle is not rare.

Buffalo Trace is the distillery's flagship bourbon and is far more available than its allocated siblings. Stock still varies by market, so a empty shelf does not mean the bottle is worth double retail.

Same distillery, different bottles

Buffalo Trace Distillery also makes Blanton's, Weller, Eagle Rare and the Van Winkle line. Those bottles often carry lottery or secondary premiums that the flagship does not.

For those price guides, see our Blanton's price and Pappy Van Winkle price articles. Deep Weller and Eagle Rare line pricing needs its own posts; this one stays on the core Buffalo Trace bourbon.

How should you buy Buffalo Trace without overpaying?

Start with a licensed retailer or state ABC store and compare the shelf tag to the dated figures above. A few dollars of local markup is common; multiples of retail are not, for this bottle.

  • Check the size on the tag. A liter priced like a 750ml is a better deal than a 750ml priced like a liter.
  • Skip secondary "deals" for the flagship. Save auction and private-sale caution for truly scarce bottles; our note on old whiskey bottle value covers age and provenance separately.
  • Read the label. Confirm "Kentucky Straight Bourbon," 90 proof, and the size before you pay. Cream liqueurs and gift sets are different products — NC lists Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream 750ml at $22.95. (Source: NC ABC)

Is Buffalo Trace a good investment?

As a drink, yes for many bourbon fans: it is a 90-proof Mash Bill #1 bourbon with a long award record on the producer's own page. (Source: Buffalo Trace Distillery) As a flip, no. Wide distribution and modest state-store prices leave little room after fees, shipping and the risk of a soft secondary market.

Lottery wins for scarce Buffalo Trace Distillery releases are a separate game. For the flagship, buy what you will open. If you want whiskey as an asset, we prefer casks over flipping retail bottles; American whiskey casks on Vinovest start at $1,750, with sourcing, storage and insurance included. (Source: Vinovest, Invest in Whiskey)

Casks carry risks too, and nothing here is a promise of returns. Our bourbon investment guide and bourbon market trends pieces explain how bottles and casks differ. Vinovest was acquired by StartEngine; this article is not investment advice or a company performance claim.

Bottom line on buffalo trace price

Expect roughly $29 to $33 for a 750ml at control-state shelves in late 2026, about $34 to $37 for a liter, and about $57 for 1.75L where Virginia lists it. Use those dated ABC figures, not rumor, and open the bottle.
