Domaine Philippe Colin was founded in 2004, producing red and white wines from about 20 different appellations in the Burgundy wine region. To date, the Domaine releases around 90,000 bottles annually.

The Domaine’s portfolio covers all Burgundy wine tiers — Bourgogne, village, premier cru, and grand cru — and is primarily devoted to vineyard cultivation in Chassagne Montrachet.

It’s also one of the few producers to make wine from the prestigious Les Demoiselles premier cru vineyard in Puligny Montrachet, releasing only 300 bottles a year.

In 2015, Domaine Philippe Colin expanded its holdings to South Africa with the purchase of the Topiary Wine Estate in Franschhoek.

The Vineyards of Domaine Philippe Colin

philippe-colin-3.jpg

Domaine Philippe Colin’s holdings cover approximately 13 hectares, with vineyards primarily in Chassagne Montrachet and some on the Puligny side. The Domaine also has vineyards in neighboring Santenay and St Aubin.

About two-thirds of these vineyards are planted with white grapes, and the remaining with red grapes.

Chevalier Montrachet is Domaine Philippe Colin’s grand cru vineyard, with much of its vines planted in 1978 and some in 1955.

To the north of Chassagne Montrachet, bordering St Aubin, the Domaine has three premier cru vineyards — Les Chenevottes, Les Vergers, and Les Chaumées. These are only 50m apart, yet fruit from the vines in each produce very different wines, showing how diverse Burgundy terroir can be.

A Brief History of Domaine Philippe Colin

philippe-colin-4.jpg

Philippe Colin has a deep knowledge of the Chassagne Montrachet region, thanks to his heritage that runs back to the 1850s when his ancestors first settled there.

Phillippe Colin studied viticulture and oenology in Beaune, Burgundy. He began working with his parents at Domaine Colin Deleger in 1988, and his brother Bruno Colin joined them a few years later.

When Phillippe Colin’s parents decided to retire in 2004, Phillippe and Bruno Colin agreed to part ways as they had a different approach to winemaking. They split the estate into two different domaines, and Domain Philippe Colin was founded in the same year.
